The National Renewable Energy Laboratory
(NREL) located at the foothills of the Rocky
Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the
nation’s primary laboratory for research and
development of renewable energy and
energy efficiency technologies. NREL’s Solid
State Theory Group (http://www.sst.nrel.gov)
in the Materials and Computational Sciences
Center has an immediate opening for a
Scientist II position, full time (40 hours per
week) working with Dr. Alex Zunger in the
newly established Energy Frontier Research
Center on “Inverse Design of Energy
Materials.”
Job Duties
Theoretical modeling of renewable energy
materials. The work will center on the
inverse
design of electro-optical properies of
semiconductors and insulators for solar-
energy conversion
applications. Provide mechanisms and
results for forging a bridge between the
atomic microstructure of alloys and their
electronic properties. This includes the
responsibilities for maintaining and further
developing computer codes on alloy theory.
Required Education and Experience
Relevant Master's Degree and 3 years
experience or equivalent relevant
education/experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Physics or Materials Sciences. Strong
background in theoretical and/or computational
condensed matter physics. Experience in
electronic structure calculations.
