| Japanese company, JEOL, are claiming a world first with a small battery they say has twice the charge storage of a lead-acid battery and a similar capacity to nickel-hydrogen units. The battery doesn't use chemical reactions and has electrodes made of nanoporous carbon. It can be fully charged for use in a mobile phone in under a minute and the performance of the battery doesn’t degrade over time. The battery is expected to be adopted for use in a wide range of applications from mobile phones to fuel cell vehicles. |
