About LOT QuantumDesign Ltd
Introduction
WiTec systems have come up with a new series of microscopes that are flexible and can be used in different microscopic applications. The new series is named Alpha Series. These microscopes accommodate the probe and the high-resolution Raman and other optical microscopy techniques into a single unit. In order to provide flexibility over a number of applications, the system configuration can be modified.
The various microscopy techniques that the new Alpha Series cover includes:
-
Atomic force microscopy (AFM)
-
Raman microscopy
-
Scanning near field optical microscopy (SNOM) and
-
Confocal microscopy
WiTec dominates the filed of optical, structural and chemical imaging by designing innovative products.

Colour-coded confocal Raman image of a 7.1nm PMMA layer (red) and a 4.2nm contamination layer (green) on glass (blue). 200x200 spectra, 7ms integration time/spectrum. Total acquisition time: 5.4 minutes
Types of Alpha Series Microscopes
The details of the various microscopes under the Alpha Series are given in the following sections.
Alpha 300S Series
The Alpha 300S is based on the SNOM technique and uses special cantilever SNOM sensors. This microscope integrates the advantages of SNOM, AFM and Confocal Microscopy into a single unit.
Alpha 300R Series
The Alpha 300R microscope uses the Confocal Raman technique and provides ultra-fast chemical imaging having a spatial resolution as low as 200 nm.
Alpha 300A Series
Finally, the Alpha 300A microscope incorporates the AFM technique for imaging and is primarily used in materials science, nanotechnology and life sciences. This microscope therefore is prevalent as a research-oriented microscope.
Alpha 500 Series
The Alpha 500 Series microscopes are automated AFM and Confocal Raman imaging systems. These provide a 100mmx150mm motorised sample stage for multi-area and multi point measurements in large samples. Such microscopes are useful in quality control applications.
Alpha 700 Series
The Alpha 700 Series microscopes are capable of analysing large samples having dimensions 350x300mm. Confocal Raman Imaging and AFM techniques are incorporated in the Alpha 700 Series of microscopes.
