Nanophase Technologies Corporation, a technology leader in nanomaterials and nanoengineered product solutions, has announced the commercial availability of copper oxide nanomaterials. The new copper oxide is produced using NanoArc™ Synthesis technology, the Company’s most advanced nanomaterials manufacturing process, and is available in mean particle size ranges from 20-50 nanometers, either as nanoparticles or nanoparticle dispersions.
Nanosized copper oxide has a variety of uses as an industrial antimicrobial and antifungal agent that remains active for very long periods of time, even in harsh environments, and can be readily incorporated into specialty polymers and materials to impart extended antimicrobial character. Key applications that are envisioned for the new product include wood preservation, marine antifouling coatings, incorporation into various plastics and fibers and use as an additive in a variety of coatings formulations. Other applications for copper oxide include optical glass polishing agents, additives for ceramics processing and colorants and pigments for various materials.
Nanophase’s copper oxide consists of non-porous, dense, discrete, homogeneous crystals
