Introduction - NANOMYTE SR-100 EC

NANOMYTE SR-100 EC from NEI Corporation is a waterborne micron-thick coating that imparts both easy-to-clean and scratch resistance properties to surfaces. The transparent coating can be applied to metals such as chrome, brass, titanium, aluminum, and stainless steel, as well as plastics, including epoxy, polyurethane, PET, PMMA, and polycarbonate.

Formulation of NANOMYTE SR-100 EC

NANOMYTE SR-100 EC is based on a patent-pending, water-based coating composition containing functionalized perfluoropolyethers (PFPEs), which are recognized for their non-stick and lubricating characteristics. However, incorporating PFPEs into a stable formulation to create a coating exhibiting adequate adhesion to different substrates is a major technical challenge. This stability issue has been addressed by NEI’s SR-100 EC formulation.

In addition, most of the commercially available PFPE-based, easy-to-clean coatings typically have a thickness of <100nm. In comparison, SR-100 EC forms coatings of 2-5µm thickness with more mechanical stability, and therefore cannot easily be removed by chemicals, harsh cleaners and abrasion. Besides mechanically stable, the surface treatment optimizes lubricity, and is highly repellent to water oils, hydrocarbons and ketones.

Features and Benefits of NANOMYTE SR-100 EC

Soil and liquids simply slide off the surface of components that are applied with SR-100 EC, thus preventing depositions and increasing the time between cleaning operations. SR-100 EC is a clear coating solution and exhibits superior adhesion with different substrates, including plastics, ceramics and metals. It can be applied with flow, roll, spray or dip coating.

SR-100 EC has long shelf life and forms an easily cleanable surface. Besides scratch and abrasion resistance, the coating imparts superior and durable stain-resisting properties. It creates a lubricating surface with superior chemical resistance. The high abrasion resistance of SR-100 EC is illustrated in Figure 1, showing the results of half-coated polycarbonate and stainless steel plates after 500 cycles of Taber abrasion testing (ASTM D1044) involving a 500g load and CS-10F wheel.

Conclusion

SR-100EC is suitable for coating faucets, hand rails, stainless steel appliances, touch screen protectors, and optical lenses. The liquid coating solution is supplied in 1, 5, and 55 gallon quantities.
