DuPont Donates Nanotechnology Patents To UC Davis - News Item

Dupont has donated a collection of patents and other intellectual property on using nanotechnology to generate electron beams to The University of California, Davis, College of Engineering.

The donation supports the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering particularly Professor Charles E. Hunt’s, Vacuum Microelectronics group. They use nanotechnology to build tiny structures that confine enormous electric fields in a very small volume of material. The material then emits electrons that can be focused into a beam. Known as "field-emission" devices, they have applications including high-efficiency lighting, biomedical devices, nanoscopic x-ray sources, cathode ray tubes and microwave devices.
