Veeco Instruments has received the 2003 Photonics Circle of Excellence Award for its Wyko DMEMS Dynamic MEMS Measurement System. The award recognizes the top twenty-five photonics-based products of the year, for excellence, innovation and achievement.

The DMEMS system developed in response to requests from MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical Systems) manufacturers who needed to measure the performance of devices as they actuate. The system uses a strobe light source to "freeze" the motion of a device as it moves, allowing high resolution measurement to take place. A series of such measurements can be sequenced together to describe a device's full range of motion. The DMEMS system provides developers and process engineers with unprecedented insight into their designs and processes, helping ensure the proliferation of MEMS technology into everyday applications.
