| ZettaCore, a start-up developing molecular memory chips, has raised $17.5 million in a second round venture capital funding. The molecular memory devices developed by ZettaCore use a hybrid approach that combines them with standard semiconductor technology and manufacturing techniques. This approach will allow products to be brought to market faster than using the approaches of other nanotech semiconductor developers. ZettaCore's chips will store more than 10 to 1,000 times more data than current memory chips. The molecules used by ZettaCore are porphyrins, which have excellent storage properties, are difficult to destroy and retain a charge for long periods of time. |
