The key applications of the TLS VIS-2 Tunable Laser Source are:

  • Space and astronomy: It is challenging to find a light source for testing a coronagraph. Lasers are collimated strongly and a number of types of near-IR lasers will be powerful enough, but, other than Photon etc’s Tunable Laser Source, nothing is tunable over a very large wavelength domain.
  • Retinal imaging: The key component of this instrument is a custom-made mydriatic camera for the observation of the eye fundus. Along with this, the tunable laser source offers a safe and comfortable illumination of the subject’s eye at wavelengths from 420 to 1000 nm. IRIS enables the non-invasive localization of biomolecules and structures in the retina using their specific spectral signatures.
  • Thin films: Magneto-optical (MO) effects are used either as tools in order to probe the magnetization reversal features of a broad range of sample types or as an efficient way to change the polarization of light through an induced magnetization state in samples. The Faraday effect in transparent samples along with other MO effects such as Kerr measurements, offer a non-destructive probe for in-situ measurements of samples, such as thin films.
