New Spin Control Technique Allows Carbon Nanotubes to be Sorted by Length

Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have reported a new technique to sort batches of carbon nanotubes by length using high-speed centrifuges. Many potential applications for carbon nanotubes depend on the lengths of these microscopic cylinders, and one of the most important features of the new technique, say the scientists, is that it should be easily scalable to produce industrial quantities of high-quality nanotubes

Researchers have published a paper that describes a strategy for
small-animal optical imaging based on Raman spectroscopy and
Raman nanoparticles. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering nanoparticles
and single-wall carbon nanotubes were used to demonstrate
whole-body Raman imaging, nanoparticle pharmacokinetics,
multiplexing, and in vivo tumor targeting, using an imaging
system adapted for small-animal Raman imaging.
