Artificial Joint Material Using Carbon Nanotubes
At nano tech 2009, artificial joint material using carbon nanotubes was presented,
from NEDO's project on "Development of High-Performance Artificial
Joint Sliding Components by Nano Biotechnology." Conventionally, polyethylene
and ceramics are used for artificial joints. The project developed an entirely
new material that combines carbon nanotubes with those materials. The research
team aims to extend the life of artificial joints, which is currently 15-20
years, reducing the need for replacement operations.
