Asylum Research’s Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate

This video shows high speed functional PFM (piezoresponse force microscopy) imaging of AR-PPLN (Asylum Research-periodically poled lithium niobate) test sample. The PPLN consists of a 0.5mm thick LiNbO3 transparent die which measures 3x3mm.

The oppositely poled stripe domains cover the whole surface of the die and are parallel to one axis of the die. The pitch of the domains measures 10µm. The domains are distracted by a -100V, 0.5s pulse. After applying the negative pulse, the domains are restored to a state very close to the original by applying a 0–30V positive bias.

Run Time – 1:21min
