The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), one of the UK's primary knowledge based networks for Micro and Nanotechnologies, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Barry Park as its new Theme Manager for Manufacturing + Processing. Previously the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Oxonica, a leading UK nanomaterials company, Dr Park will drive commercial innovation and deliver numerous benefits to the nanotechnology market and the NanoKTN's members.

Dr Park will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operational activities of his theme and will encourage the development of events and focus groups in this area, to ensure information is disseminated and technology pushed forward. He will also take over the running of the Nano Food and Nano-enabled Coatings focus groups.

Dr Park brings with him a wealth of commercial experience and a PhD in Polymer Chemistry. He is also the co-author of over 20 technical papers and an inventor on over 30 patent applications that have led to many internationally granted patents.

Commenting on his new appointment, Dr Park said: “The NanoKTN is an integral part of the UK's development in this area and has a truly positive effect in this arena. I am both honoured and delighted to have been invited to work with the NanoKTN and believe the projects and work we have planned will help raise awareness, encourage developments and ensure future innovation in UK nanotechnology.”

Alec Reader, Director of the NanoKTN, comments on Dr Park's appointment; "We have no doubt that working with Dr Park will bring valuable opportunities for positive developments in the manufacturing and processing space. Dr Park brings with him numerous key contacts and a vast expanse of knowledge and I look forward to watching this theme further evolve."

Reader continues, "At the last meeting of the Ministerial Group on Nanotechnology (MGoN), it was suggested that there is a great need for strategy in the future development and use of nanotechnologies and we believe that the NanoKTN is at the centre of these developments, enabling a clear link between stakeholders, academia, science and industry. A key part of Dr Park's role will be to coordinate the efforts of the NanoKTN on the recently developed Mini Innovation & Growth Team (IGT) and identify specific work streams that reflect the strengths of its members."
