Mobius Photonics,
an innovative producer of short pulsed fiber laser sources (IR, green, and UV
laser), has named Robert L. Byer Chairman of its board of directors.
"As co-founder of Mobius Photonics, Robert Byer has already brought knowledge
and leadership experience to the company and we welcome him now as our chairman
of the board," said Kiyomi Monro, Mobius Photonics vice president of business
management. "Mobius is at a significant point in its development -- we
are striving to produce unique fiber laser products and to grow our operation.
Robert Byer's guidance will play an important role in helping us achieve our
goals."
Robert L. Byer is the 2009 winner of the Frederic Ives Medal, the highest award
given by the Optical Society of America (OSA). He has been elected vice president
of the American Physical Society (APS) for 2010 and is a past president of OSA
and of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (IEEE LEOS). He is a professor
of Applied Physics at Stanford University (Palo Alto, Calif.), where he has
served as vice provost and dean of research and been chair of the Applied Physics
Department. He has been director of the Edward L. Ginzton Laboratory and director
of the Hansen Experimental Physics Laboratory. He is a founding member of the
California Council on Science and Technology.
Mobius Photonics also recently named Robert Mortensen its CEO.
