Olympus Showcases Two New Products for Microelectronics and Solar Industries

Olympus will be exhibiting two exciting new products designed for research, design and quality assurance applications in the microelectronics and solar industries at the SEMICON West and Intersolar North America exhibitions, being held concurrently at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from July 13-15.

Olympus will be featuring its new AL120™ wafer handling system in booth #6047 at SEMICON West. It will be demonstrating the new Hirox® KH-7700 All-in-One Digital Microscope, which it started offering earlier this month, in booth #9138 at Intersolar North America. All SEMICON West and Intersolar North America visitors have access to both events.

The Olympus AL120 wafer handling system, its newest generation, delivers the renowned performance and reliability for which Olympus microelectronics products are known. The AL120 system transfers wafers with thicknesses down to 90 micrometers to meet the demands of thin-wafer manufacturing. The new system offers 360-degree rotation, for full macro examination of the wafer’s back surface and edges. User friendly and recipe driven, it can be programmed for different configurations, including specific cassette types, wafer specifications and transfer speeds. Quick push-button recipe selection allows the operator to load different products instantly. The AL120 wafer handler accepts wafers that are 100-200mm in diameter. It can be adapted for smaller-diameter wafers and used with non-Olympus microscope models on a custom basis.

Olympus continues to focus attention on both wafer and operator safety by adhering to SEMI S2 and S8 standards for semiconductor handling and inspection equipment. In line with the company’s focus on and commitment to environmental protection, the AL120 wafer handler is fully compliant with international Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standards.

The Hirox KH-7700 all-in-one portable digital microscopy system is designed to provide observation, recording and measurement for industrial and quality applications in such fields as metallurgy and materials science, electronics, forensics, medical device manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. It provides 2- and 3-dimensional measurement, display and real-time tiling for creating large composite images. It also offers quick extended depth of field, 360-degree rotational viewing, auto-calibration and both video and still imaging. Finally, it has a super-high-dynamic-range feature and supports local area network (LAN) configurations.

“These two instruments are part of the full line of Olympus equipment for science and industry – the most extensive line of inspection and measuring solutions available for the microelectronics and photovoltaics industries,” said Matt Smith, director of sales and marketing for Olympus America Inc.'s Scientific Equipment Group - Industrial Microscopes.

SEMICON West is the flagship annual event for the global microelectronics industry. Intersolar North America promotes the development of business opportunities throughout the U.S. solar industry.
