LUM Sets Benchmarks in Analytics of Fluid Particle Separation

The first European Conference on Fluid Particle Separation (ECFPS) will take place in Lyon from 5-7 October 2010, organized by the French Fluid Particle-Separation Society (SF2P) veranstaltet. The scientific committee has invited Prof. Dr. Lerche, Managing Director of LUM GmbH, to give a keynote lecture on the sedimentation and consolidation behaviour of suspensions in the centrifugal field.

Besides theoretical approaches, own research results of the in-situ analysis of concentration changes during centrifugation will be in the focus of the contribution. With the measurement of suspensions using LUM’s patented STEP-technology and the online/offline data analysis with the new WINDOWS 7 based software SEPView 6.0 the user is provided with parameters, e.g. sediment height, sediment packing density and flocculation degree. This enables the analysis and a fast and reliable optimization of separation processes.

The introduction of a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for the direct quantitative determination of the flocculation degree of dispersions in original concentration, i.e. without dilution, highlights the advantages of this method in comparison to indirect approaches, e.g. a zeta potential measurement.

In addition to the keynote lecture LUM contributes with further activities to the conference. The attendees are invited to learn more about relevant applications and to get in touch live with the latest measuring devices, e.g. the Dispersion Analyser LUMiSizer® and the Stability Analyser LUMiFuge®. Using LUM’s extremely powerful measurement instrumentation demixing processes in dispersions can be analysed in a rapid, efficient and reliable way, a comprehensive characterization of dispersions is provided.
