Scientist From Quantachrome To Speak At Nanoscale Adsorption Conference

Published on September 15, 2011 at 7:38 PM

Quantachrome Instruments' Dr Matthias Thommes will present an invited paper titled "Sorption, Pore Condensation and Hysteresis Behavior in Advanced Nanoporous Silica and Carbon Materials" on September 22, 2011, during the workshop conference "Adsorption at the Nanoscale" to be held at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.

Dr Matthias Thommes, Quantachrome's Director of Applied Science, just one of thirty invited speakers, will present his talk at the workshop conference "Adsorption at the Nanoscale: A New Frontier in Fundamental Science and Applications" that runs from September 22nd through the 24th, 2011.

The conference will be held at the Monsanto Auditorium in the Life Sciences Center of the Columbia campus of the University of Missouri. According to the organizers, this workshop has for its focus an area that lies at the confluence of basic science and applications - starting from the very fundamental question of the origin of adsorption forces, to its extension in the form of the varied behavior of films on regular and irregular surfaces. The workshop is intended to provide a unique opportunity to establish dialogue between leading individuals with very different backgrounds and orientations. The following is a selection of the main areas that will be discussed: Materials for the storage of Hydrogen (H2) and Methane (CH4), characterization and optimization of the pore structure, transitions in adsorbed systems, and compliant materials like metal-organic-frameworks (MOFs), in which the host medium reacts to the presence of the adsorbent.
The workshop is also supported in part by financial contribution from Quantachrome Instruments.
