Build Your Own Micromechanical Testing Sequence: FemtoTools Launches the FT-WMS01 Modular Mechanical Testing Software

The FemtoTools FT-WMS01 Modular Mechanical Testing Software allows users to take real control over their micromechanical testing. Using simple drag-and-drop actions, the development of customized, automated micromechanical testing programs for the testing of microstructures, such as MEMS chips, becomes possible for the first time.

FemtoTools is a Swiss high-tech company that offers high-precision instruments for mechanical testing and robotic handling in the micro- and nanodomains. Typical application fields are the micromechanical testing of MEMS, mechanobiology, material science and microassembly. The testing of microstructures is important in areas such as material science, biological research or the development of MEMS. Micromechanical testing includes a large number of different measurement principles such as

  • Compression testing
  • Tensile testing
  • Cyclic testing (fatigue)
  • Creep testing
  • Deflection measurements

For this reason, a system capable of performing all these measurements must be highly adaptable on hardware as well as software level.

The FT-WMS01 Modular Mechanical Testing Software (together with the FT-FS1000 Mechanical Probe, a modular mechanical testing system) enables the user-friendly creation of customized micromechanical testing programs. The software is based on National Instrument’s LabVIEW and includes a library of predefined building blocks that can be assembled and reconfigured for the development of a custom testing sequence. The simple drag-and-drop process of predefined building blocks requires no programming knowledge.
