Fifty-Three Young Women Complete CNSE-Girls Inc. Eureka! Program on Nanotechnology

Fifty-three young women who successfully completed this year’s CNSE-Girls Inc. Eureka!® program – the first of its kind in the nation to focus on nanotechnology – received certificates during a concluding ceremony on Thursday, August 1, at SUNY’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), after the program participants displayed posters showcasing their nanotechnology-based work to the public.

Over the past four weeks, the students have engaged in a comprehensive series of hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math-based learning at CNSE, exploring wafer patterning; creating nano-inspired putty that could be used to repair fractured bones; and studying ways to commercialize inventions that use nanomaterials, among others. In the week leading up to the concluding program, they also had a chance to meet U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker during her visit to the NanoCollege.

The CNSE-Girls Inc. Eureka!® program aims to encourage young women to pursue the growing number of nanotechnology-related educational and career opportunities throughout New York State. The girls participate in the program at no cost as a result of significant financial support from SEFCU, which is funding the first cohort of girls who have now finished their second year, and RBC Capital Markets, which funded the second group of girls concluding their first year.
