SUNY CNSE Hosts Hundreds of Students for NanoCareer Day Program

In accordance with Governor Andrew Cuomo’s educational blueprint to prepare students for New York’s growing nanotechnology economy, the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) hosted hundreds of students from across the state for its popular NanoCareer Day program on Wednesday, November 13.

The event was part of CNSE’s sixth annual celebration of NANOvember, a month-long series of activities that are designed to highlight the growing impact of nanotechnology on society and the global leadership of the SUNY NanoCollege and New York State in this exciting field.

More than 300 elementary, middle, and high school students from seven New York counties took part in a series of engaging activities in which they built polymer chains, extracted DNA from fruit, gowned up in a cleanroom “bunny” suit, and toured CNSE’s world-class Albany NanoTech Complex. They also learned about the growing number of nanotechnology-based careers at leading high-tech companies and at CNSE, the most advanced university-driven research enterprise in the world.

Participating schools, including their counties, were: Albany High School, City School District of Albany (Albany); Mohonasen High School, Mohonasen Central School District (Schenectady); New York Mills Jr./Sr. High School, New York Mills Union Free School District (Oneida); Shaker Junior High School, North Colonie Central School District (Albany); Stamford Central School, Stamford Central School District (Delaware); Averill Park High School, Averill Park Central School District (Rensselaer); Cooperstown Junior/Senior High School, Cooperstown Central School District (Otsego); Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES (Otsego); Shenendehowa High School East, Shenendehowa Central School District (Saratoga); Laurens Central School, Laurens Central School District (Otsego).
