Omnetics Connector Corporation, a worldwide designer and manufacturer of micro and nano miniature interconnect products, announces its new line ofMetal Nano-Connectors, which are high-density, multi-position connectors made withbreak-away or threaded metal housings for a positive lock and environmental seal.
Built to meet or exceed military specifications, the small, lightweight, but strong connectorsare perfect for mission critical applications where size, weight and reliability are crucial,such as on board unmanned aerial vehicles (UAMs).
As their use continues to grow exponentially for military reconnaissance, security and beyond, UAMs must operate under a wide range of environmental conditions and stay aloft for long periods of time. The electronic functions inside the craft such as circuits, cameras, and other instruments require cable and interconnects thatare extremely small and lightweight but that can also withstand high shock and vibrations while maintaining electrical integrity. Omnetics’ line of Metal Nano-Connectors fit the bill, as they not only include the smallest military-quality connectors available today but they alsosurvive ruggedness tests even beyond military specifications. Temperature ranges exceed +200ºC, and locking screws hold all connectionstogether securelyduring even the toughest of landings.
Board mounted versions of the Metal Nano-Connectors mate up with pre-wired connector/cables for instrument wiring. The connectors are available in four shell sizes: 6, 11, 16, and 28 positions arranged on a .025” (.64 mm) pitch and are capable of 1 amp per contact. They can be configured with different levels of waterproof sealing up to IP-68. A variety of shell material and finishes are available including nickel-plated brass and back oxide stainless steel.
Most of Omnetics’ Metal Nano-Connectors’ standard designs can be purchased off-the-shelf and meet military specifications, thus bringing the industry a true, COTS nano interconnect system.
