CNI Commences Mass Production of Cambrios’ ClearOhm® Silver Nanowire-Based Touch Panels

Cambrios Technologies Corporation, the leader in silver nanowire-based solutions for the transparent conductor markets, and CN Innovations (CNI), well known for developing touch sensors by using roll-to-roll and sheet form laser technology included in many devices, today announced that CNI is shipping in mass production Cambrios’ ClearOhm® silver nanowire-based touch panels to tier one global OEMs.

Using CNI’s proprietary laser patterning technology, the company manufactures complete touch sensors up to 55-inch diagonal size for PC monitors and All-In-One (AIO) computers.

“As industry leaders in applying laser technology to touch panel production, we strive to produce the best touch experience possible and to provide short lead time and cost effective solutions to our customers,” said Eric Chong, deputy chief marketing officer of CNI. “Our long standing relationship with Cambrios has enabled us to reach this milestone of using silver nanowires for touch panel production and validates Cambrios’ expertise and growth in the industry.”

The application of laser technology developed by CNI is more efficient, cost effective, enables shorter lead times and environmentally friendly than typical chemical etching processes. With the laser patterning capability, CNI is able to produce high performance sensors with great visual quality in mass production quantities. Since silver nanowires require very low power to pattern, room temperature lasers can be used. Alternatively, the incumbent material, indium tin oxide (ITO), needs more power which could damage the substrate film that ITO is coated on.

“With silver nanowires, CNI has moved into the large sized touch panel market with a product that is lighter and thinner for an improved user experience,” said Dave Yao, vice president of worldwide sales for Cambrios. “Our partnership is seeing rapid growth in volume and we aim to further expand into new markets and applications.”

Cambrios will be showcasing its ClearOhm coating material, including touch panels made by CNI, at CES 2015 in Cambrios’ exclusive suite at the Westgate Las Vegas Hotel. CES is being held in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center on Jan. 6 – 9, 2015.
