In line with its market growth and the recent establishment of a US subsidiary,
Nanosurf
has begun tuning its home office in Switzerland to match the company’s
global growth strategy.

Dr. Urs Matter has joined Nanosurf at the beginning of June and will take
over as CEO from Dr. Robert Sum by July 1, 2009. Dr. Matter holds a doctoral
degree in Physics from the ETH Zürich and has 14 years of management experience
as CEO and Business Unit manager in the field of sensors and analytical instruments
at Siemens, Comet and Hy-Tech. He also is a co-founder of CovalX and has extensive
experience developing and expanding businesses on a worldwide basis. Dr. Matter’s
main focus will be on establishing and intensifying direct contacts with industry
and academia, thereby strengthening Nanosurf’s position in these market
segments, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Sum, in his new function
as Head of Marketing & Business Development, will apply his expertise to
the development of new business opportunities and applications.
At the same time, Dr. Björn Pietzak will take over as Head of Sales from
Mr. Ola Modinger. Dr. Pietzak is Nanosurf’s current Area Sales Manager
Europe, who — ever since his initial appointment — has been highly
committed to enlarge Nanosurf’s sales volume through increasing direct
sales efforts in Switzerland as well as by extending Nanosurf’s global
sales network of distributors. Dr. Pietzak has a research background in Physics
with companies such as Sony, and many years of sales experience with the well-known
Sulzer Corporation. Mr. Modinger, in his turn, will continue to cooperate with
Nanosurf as distributor for the CIS states (the former Soviet Union), and has
started an independent company specifically to this end.
The three Nanosurf founders, all actively involved in key positions within
the company and board of directors, are confident that, with the abovementioned
reorganizations, Nanosurf has strategically repositioned its competencies in
critical business areas. This will allow the company to better implement its
business growth strategy, to more quickly react to the increasing global demand
for nanotechnology instruments, and ultimately to better address and serve its
customers in industry and academia worldwide.
Nanosurf is a leading manufacturer of high-quality, easy-to-use, and robust
scanning probe microscopes, and has attained world fame and recognition for
its contribution to NASA’s Phoenix Mars Mission. With its proven technology
and its smart and unique solutions in the field of nanotechnology, Nanosurf
is continuously expanding its customer base around the globe.
