Today, marking the opening of the 9th International Conference on Atomic Layer
Deposition in Monterey, California, Picosun
Oy, Finland-based global manufacturer of state-of-the-art Atomic Layer Deposition
(ALD) systems, preliminarily announced posting its third consecutive positive
annual result.
Picosun's year-on-year revenues rose by a healthy 22 percent, and the company
posted a small profit. "Given the overall state of the global economy,
this is all the more significant, because during the fiscal year of May 1st
2008 to April 30th 2009 Picosun invested heavily into its new laboratory, R&D
and production facilities in Kirkkonummi, Finland", says Kustaa Poutiainen,
Chief Executive Officer of Picosun.
Thus far, the Picosun saga has been one of exceptional qualities. Founded as
recently as 2004, the company has developed itself through organic growth, building
an impressive portfolio of ALD systems both for research and production use.
Whilst most high-tech start-ups seem to compete with accumulated losses, Picosun
is maintaining its profitability throughout the economic crisis.
"We are getting completely ready for the big leap", Poutiainen smiles."Because
of our organic growth policy, however, we are not in a hurry."
Global recession has not been felt too much at Picosun. "We get conflicting
signs from different parts of the world, but for a global player like ourselves,
the sum total seems to be rather even keeled, tilting towards sustained growth,"
explains Kustaa Poutiainen.
Geographically, the latest sales of Picosun's systems, research and company
clients, have gone to countries very much affected by the global gloom.
"This only proofs the axiom that even in the midst of the murkiness of
the global downturn, the most forward looking, most clear headed players always
make sure to be on top of technology when the upsurge starts. To be absolutely
certain, they come to us. Picosun represents the brightest of the latest in
its own field of technology and clearly benefit from its unique position,"
Poutiainen says.
The 9th International Conference on Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD 2009) is a
three-day meeting 20 to 22 July (preceded on the 19th of July by one day of
tutorials), dedicated to the science and technology of atomic layer deposition
of thin films. Picosun exhibits its customer-praised line of ALD systems at
the venue of the ALD 2009 conference, Portola Hotel and Spa in Monterey, California
at the exhibition area.
Picosun develops and manufactures Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) reactors for
micro- and nanotechnology applications. Picosun represents continuity to over
three decades of ALD reactor manufacturing in Finland. Picosun is based in Espoo,
Finland and has its US headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. SUNALET ALD process
tools are installed in various universities, research institutes and companies
across Europe, USA and Asia.
Dr. Tuomo Suntola, inventor of ALD technology, is Member of the Board of Directors
of Picosun. World's most experienced ALD reactor designer Sven Lindfors is Picosun's
Chief Technology Officer and one of the founders of the company. Picosun Oy
is a part of Stephen Industries Inc Oy.
