Oerlikon Systems (SIX:OERL), a leading supplier of PVD sputter systems, has received a multiple tool purchase order from the world’s largest semiconductor foundry for its CLUSTERLINE 300II systems. These contracts augment recent orders received from key semiconductor manufacturers in South Korea and Taiwan for the same CLUSTERLINE 300mm systems aimed at the packaging market.
“The ever increasing interest in our CLUSTERLINE products has been expected but the large multiple orders have exceeded our expectations” explains Andreas Dill, Head of Oerlikon Systems. “Based on our innovative cleaning solutions and thanks to our ongoing ‘Continuous Improvement Programs,’ we succeeded in further reducing the Cost of Ownership of the CLUSTERLINE platforms.”
The growing success of the CLUSTERLINE 300II, a cluster tool specifically designed for advanced packaging and backside metallization (for wafer sizes up to 300mm), is due to key competitive advantages. The quick qualification processes and better ‘cost of ownership’ parameters back-up the ‘best in class’ technology claims made by Oerlikon support teams.
“Our efforts focus on optimizing innovative solutions for under bump metallization (UBM), redistribution layers, backside metallization and ultra thin wafer processing,” adds Andreas Dill. “Our optimization of this 3rd generation cluster tool has resulted in a reliable and highly flexible platform with outstanding cost efficiency – and with remarkably high wafer yields and easy operation.”
Partnership with DKSH Taiwan as additional success factor
Another important factor in the success of the CLUSTERLINE concerns the local support teams. Since May 2009, DKSH Taiwan has managed all marketing, sales and service activities for Oerlikon Systems in the vital Taiwan market. The DKSH Taiwan team works closely together with the Oerlikon product managers and development teams in order to provide complete production solutions to existing and potential Oerlikon clients in Taiwan.
“The local sales team of DKSH Taiwan, plus our superior technical support, service and marketing capabilities, have helped us to secure this significant order for Oerlikon Systems,” explains Dr. Adrian Eberle, President of DKSH Taiwan. “Significant for the most recent orders was the selection process. The CLUSTERLINE went head to head with incumbent competitive tools in the areas of build quality, utilization of consumables, and overall cost of ownership. This, combined with the award-winning after sales service from DKSH Taiwan, made the difference!”
Superior production technology and Oerlikon’s localized global network continue to show positive results in the all-important Asia market: “Our solutions approach has clearly positioned Oerlikon as the supplier for the coming market upswing,” summarizes Andreas Dill.
