NanoKTN Plans First UK NanoMedicine Mission to Switzerland

Companies in UK are planning to visit Switzerland’s centers of excellence. The NanoKTN along with partners FCO Science & Innovation Network, Health Tech and Medicines KTN and the Swiss Embassy London would go on a mission along with several leading companies and academicians who utilize nanotechnology in the healthcare sector on a four day visit to the centers of research excellence in Lausanne/Geneva, Zurich and Basel in Switzerland.

This visit would give them a wonderful opportunity for exploring the nanomedicine avenues in Switzerland, get exposed to their nanomedicine markets and also network with their Swiss counterparts. Prof. Lord Alec Broers, a well-known figure in nanotechnology and the previous chair of the House of Lords Science & Technology Committee will lead the mission.

During their visit the UK delegates would assess the expertise levels in three major nanomedicine clusters of Zurich, Basel and Geneva/Lausanne and also determine the possibility of collaboration in these centers. They would also be meeting several Swiss companies both large and small along with research and academic institutions. The delegation includes representatives from UK’s biggest pharma company GSK, Aseptika, Plus Applied Nanodetectors, QuantuMDx, Pharmidex, Izon Science and Swiss Precision Diagnostics along with several academicians from London Centre for Nanotechnology, Bristol Heart Institute, the Centre for NanoHealth at Swansea, and the Universities of Sheffield and Leeds.

According to Dr Mike Fisher who is the Theme Manager for Healthcare & Life Sciences at the NanoKTN, the main aim of the NanoKTN was to support and promote UK organizations to join forces and share their expertise with the chief partners in user markets for achieving growth of the UK nanotechnology and micro sector. He further reveals that they were excited to carry out their first NanoMedicine Mission to Switzerland and were eagerly waiting to discuss the possibilities for collaborating with Swiss research institutions and companies and also establish important contacts in Switzerland.
