SiTime Unveils Industry’s Smallest Silicon MEMS Oscillators

SiTime has unveiled the SiT530x line, a portfolio of silicon MEMS timing solutions that comply with Stratum 3 solutions and substitute TCXOs and OCXOs.

The SiT530x Portfolio

The SiT530x portfolio’s SiT5301 and SiT5302 are designed for networking and telecommunication infrastructure including smart grid applications, IP timing, wireless base stations, synchronous ethernet and SONET-based edge and core routers. The SiT5301 operates at frequency ranging between 1 and 60 MHz, while the SiT5302 functions at a frequency ranging between 60 and 220 MHz. Their broad frequency range with an accuracy up to 6 digits enable designers to set custom frequencies easily and create systems with superior reliability and performance.

The SiT530x portfolio is a special combination of compact size, Stratum 3 frequency stability, programmable features and minimum voltage operation, which enable customers to customize and distinguish their products easily and rapidly.

Both the SiT5301 and the SiT5302 fulfill or surpass the frequency stability criteria of Telcordia GR-1244 Stratum 3 for the strictest timing applications. They are offered in a 2520 compatible package, the smallest ±100 PPB system of the industry. They are also offered in 7050, 5032 and 3225 packages. Their size is 60% smaller than that of Stratum 3 TCXO and 10 folds smaller than that of an OCXO. Unlike quartz, the SiT530x family of oscillators does not have activity dips, which make a reference clock with improved system performance and high stability over temperature.

The SiT530x portfolio has an operating voltage range between 2.5 and 3.3 V, which removes level translation and makes them suitable for all types of networking and telecommunication FPGAs, ASICs and SOCs. Its superior silicon stability of 500 million hours MTBF is 10 folds more than that of quartz. Its vibration resistance of 70 g and shock resistance of 50,000 g are 10 folds higher than that of quartz.
