Puralytics’ SolarBag Based on Light-Stimulated Nanotechnology Surpasses EPA Standards

Puralytics, a photochemical water purification product provider using light-stimulated nanotechnology, has declared that its 3 l water purifier, SolarBag is the first-ever non-chemical, non-powered system to satisfy U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) standards for water purification equipment.

The SolarBag is a reusable, portable purification system that uses nanotechnology and sunlight to treat impurities in water, surpassing the standards of the EPA that the water purifier must eliminate 99.9% of protozoa, 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses.

The SolarBag surpassed these norms set by EPA without using additive chemicals, battery power, cleaning or pumping of membranes or filters. Impurities such as petrochemicals, heavy metals, pesticides and pharmaceuticals can also be treated using SolarBag.

The Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science at the University of Arizona conducted the tests in which water with high chemical content, color and turbidity was purified. Two representative viruses – rotavirus and poliovirus; an enteric bacteria, Raoultella terrigena and protozoa Cryptosporidium parvum were used as these are normally resistant to filtration, disinfectants and ultraviolet light. Several repeated tests were performed over a number of months and in a range of environmental conditions.

The SolarBag is BPA-free and can be used repeatedly; when exposed on a cloudy or a clear day can provide around 3 l of pure drinking water.

The Shield 500 is also offered by Puralytics, which is an economic purification system that treats industry, laboratory and well water using advanced optics, LEDs and nanotechnology and can treat 500 gallons of water each day.
