Altairnano has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Shenhua Group’s subsidiaries, Shenhua Science & Technology (Shenhua S&T) and the National Institute of Clean and Low-carbon Energy (NICE), for the development, deployment and promotion of industrial applications of nano-lithium titanate technology-based energy storage systems in China.
As per the MOU, a pilot project will be launched for the deployment and testing of an Altairnano ALTI-ESS Advantage System at one of the wind farms of Shenhua in China. The companies have established a joint working group that will identify the scope of the project. Key objectives of the project include grid stabilization, electricity storage in off-peak times particularly from renewable energy sources, and ancillary service development for the grid.
The newly introduced Altairnano ALTI-ESS Advantage is built on the company’s patented nano-lithium-titanate technology and is suitable for high-power applications thanks to its capability to swiftly charge, store and release energy back into the grid. The company expects that its ALTI-ESS Advantage System will be an important component in the joint pilot project.
Altairnano’s Chief Execuitve Officer, Alexander Lee stated that the pilot project will test, assess and improve performance of energy storage systems in China by analyzing ancillary services such as microgrid stabilization, off-peak energy storage and frequency regulation. The company is happy to join forces with Shenhua who recognized that Altairnano’s technology and expertise in electric grid energy storage systems is matured to fulfill Shenhua’s aggressive growth targets. This deal lays the cornerstone for swift commercialization in the Chinese region.
Shenhua Group is the largest coal producer in the world and largest Chinese integrated energy company.
