Company Background
Nanotechnology will play a major role in the next generation. That is why Nissei Sangyo Co., Ltd., and Hitachi, Ltd., have agreed to move forward with a business integration focused on emerging nanotechnology. Hitachi will separate its Instruments Group and Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment Group to merge them with Nissei Sangyo on October 1, 2001. Hitachi Medical Corporation will also transfer its clinical testing systems business to Nissei Sangyo on the same day. This business integration takes advantage of new legal provisions regarding corporate spin-offs in Japan that became effective in April 2001. The integration will employ the ""separation-merger"" method, with Nissei Sangyo allocating new shares to Hitachi. The new company will be established on October 1. Augmenting Nissei Sangyo's former role as a trading company, the new Hitachi High-Technologies will feature an integrated organization ready to develop, manufacture, market and service semiconductor manufacturing equipment, biotechnology products, and other equipment and systems in nanotechnology-related fields. The new company aims to anticipate market changes and customer needs, undertake rapid product development, and offer premium solutions.
