At Rochester, we educate through research. All faculty members in the Department participate in the graduate educational program and direct a research program. A typical research group has 5 to 12 members including undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and a research advisor. This size provides an interactive, informal atmosphere that facilitates problem solving and makes science enjoyable as well as exciting.
In a recent National Science Foundation survey, the Department of Chemistry at Rochester ranks in the top ten among all chemistry departments in federal research support per faculty member. The Department's success in the highly competitive federal funding process attests to the quality of its research. National recognition of the research accomplishments of the current faculty is also evidenced by their many honors and awards, including numerous Sloan, Dreyfus and Guggenheim Fellowships, Presidential Young Investigator/CAREER Awards, Fulbright Awards, and American Chemical Society awards.
