IS-Instruments was established in 2010 by Dr. Michael Foster and Dr. Jonathan Storey to specialise in the development of compact remote sensing instrumentation targeting industrial applications.
Both directors have 10 years experience working with LIDAR and 3D vision systems for space-borne applications and are internationally respected in the community. This included the development of an imaging LIDAR for landing on the Martian surface. Through ISI the directors are commercialising the technologies and expertise they developed in this industry to ground based applications.
IS-Instruments design and develop instrumentation for major commercial corporations based on this company's core technologies that will sell multiple units to a wide-range of users. These core technologies come from IS-Instruments' space science background and this company work closely with European Space Agency, Mullard Space Science Laboratory (UCL), ABSL Space Products and the UK Space Agency.
The directors are world-leading experts in certain types of Optical filtering and are considered experts in Laser-based instrumentation, Photon Counting Techniques and High-precision interferometry.
IS-Instruments are engaged in a successful project with National Grid/GL Noble Denton/IMA to adapt technologies developed by the directors for ESA Earthcare mission for application to “External Contamination Detection and Measurement at Entry Points” in gas pipelines. IS-Instruments is also working with commercial customers:
- to indentify and measure corrosion in high-temperature facilities
- to develop a dust detection LIDAR for use in the detection of onsite chemical leaks
- to develop a new sensor by fusing data from Stereo-cameras and Lidar.
