Company Background

Australian company Advanced Nano produces a wide range of nano-sized powders, from 5nm in width, for the global chemical, electronics, cosmetics and energy sectors. Originally a spin-off company from the University of Western Australia, Advanced Nano has full-scale manufacturing using its patented mechanochemical processing (MCP™) technology.

Advanced Nano materials have enhanced UV absorption, abrasion resistance, conductivity, infra-red reflection, and antibacterial properties, are of higher quality and lower cost than has been possible before now. MCP™ technology incorporates conventional ball milling processes, however eliminates the need for high temperatures that are normally required by promoting chemical reactions within the ball milling process itself.

The company has numerous international partners and clients. Samsung Corning (a joint venture between the Korean and US-based industrial giants) was an early investor, after being attracted by opportunities to improve its industrial ceramic products in the automotive, electronic and manufacturing industries through use of nano-powder coatings. The company is also working with UK-based Cerulean International to produce a transparent cerium oxide fuel catalyst. Further applications have been found in the building industry, with its nanoZ™ transparent zinc oxide providing UV protection in Bondall Paints, while its ZinClear™ product is providing a similar benefit in sun creams. An aluminium oxide product, Alusion™, is being used by many of the world’s leading cosmetics companies, including Avon, L’Oreal and Revlon, to improve the texture and adhesion of their make-ups and anti-ageing products.
