Functionalized Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes from Aldrich Materials Science

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) with a variety of chemical functionalities (Table 1) are available from Aldrich Materials Science. These SWCNTs are synthesized via the Electric Arc Discharge method.

Table 1. Functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes

Product Number Functionality Purity
639230 Poly(aminobenzene sulfonic acid) 75-85% as carbon
652474 Poly(ethylene glycol) >80% as carbon
652482 Octadecylamine 80-90% as carbon
685380 Amide >90% as carbon
652490 Carboxylic Acid >90% as carbon

Water-Soluble Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Poly(aminobenzene sulfonic acid) and poly(ethylene glycol) functionalities are covalently attached to single-walled carbon nanotubes yielding water-soluble carbon nanotubes with a solubility of about 5mg/mL.

Organic Soluble Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Octadecylamine functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes exhibit properties normally associated with molecular species such as solubility in organic solvents (THF, carbon disulfide, benzene, chloroform, toluene and methylene chloride) and solution-based chemical transformations.

Carboxylic Acid Functionalized Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Carboxylic acid functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes contain –COOH functionality along the length of the nanotube which can be derivatized with a variety of functional groups.

Amide Functionalized Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Amide functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes contain approximately 4 atom% of amide groups along the length of the nanotube and can be dispersed in DMF, acetone and alcohols, with mild sonication.
