Eliminating Speed Distortion with the High-Performance Galvo Scanner Control

  • The high-performance Galvo Scanner Control from Aerotech is a closed-loop, two-axis servo drive for their AGV series scanners
  • Infinite Field of View (IFOV) seamlessly integrates servo motion and scanner to increase the scanner working area
  • Full servo state control with “zero-tracking error” removes speed-related part distortion such as rounding of corners and necking on circles
  • Position-based laser firing (PSO) with windowing maintains steady spot spacing over a broad range of operating speeds

External Clock Input for Synchronization with Mode-Locked Lasers

The Nmark® GCL controls Aerotech’s AGV series scanners leading to industry-leading long-term thermal stability, settling times, micron-level tracking accuracy, due to sophisticated features such as 200 kHz servo rates, full state feed-forward, and look-ahead-based velocity control.

The Nmark GCL uses advanced interpolation electronics to offer up to 26-bits of effective resolution. Onboard real-time 2D calibration guarantees accurate beam placement across the total field of view.

Position Synchronized Output

The ability to accurately position a laser spot as a function of X/Y axis position is an important feature of Aerotech’s linear positioning stages for laser processing applications. This functionality is now available for scanner applications with the release of the Nmark GCL.

The ability to accurately trigger the laser as a function of position eliminates the need to program jump, mark, and polygon delays, which leads to decreased programming complexity. Now, scanner-based processes can be programmed in a similar manner as conventional X/Y stage-based applications by applying the Position Synchronized Output functionality.
