Analyzing Gunshot Residue with the Phenom GSR Desktop SEM

The analysis of gunshot residue (GSR) is a crucial procedure that allows law enforcement officials to determine whether a firearm has been used in a crime. Currently, the well-established GSR analysis techniques are based on the use of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) that is used to scan the sample and determine the presence of suspect GSR particles.

If a suspect particle is discovered, the investigator will utilize an Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) technique to identify the specific elements present within that particle.

The Phenom Perception GSR is the world's first desktop SEM that autonomously runs GSR analysis. Based on the Phenom XL desktop SEM technologies, this tool is equipped with fully integrated software and hardware that enhances the overall user-friendliness, reliability and speed of GSR analysis.
