Working Principle of Cytomass Monitor

This video illustrates the general working principle of the Cytomass Monitor that measures and monitors the mass of living cells in real time. In the Cytomass Monitor, a frequency sweep determines the cantilever’s resonance frequency. For cell mass measurements, the cell is picked up by the cantilever. The added mass of the cell changes the frequency of the cantilever. When the cell mass increases, the frequency of the cantilever decreases. Thus, the Cytomass Monitor enables one to monitor the mass changes in real time.
