Strem Chemicals Signs Exclusive Agreement with Catalyx Nanotech

Strem Chemicals, Inc, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals for research and development, announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement with Catalyx Nanotech to make Stacked Graphene NanoFibers (SGNF) available for R+D purposes.

Stacked Graphene Platelet Nanofibers are grown via a patented process that decomposes carbon containing gases in the presence of metal catalyst particles. The structure of the stacked grapheme platelet nano fibers consists of graphene sheets oriented perpendicular to the growth axis like a stack of cards, spaced 0.34nm apart. The fibers have a mean width of 40-50nm and are 100-10,000nm long!

“These carbon-based nanofibers offer a host of potential applications and expands our nanomaterials offering for our customers” said Ephraim S. Honig, Strem’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Our nanofibers could be used as a carbon-based catalyst support for fuel cells and other chemical processes, for the separation of volatile organic carbon pollutants from water and in supercapacitors and batteries” said Juzer Jangbarwala, Catalyx Nanotech Founder and Chairman. “We have also recently demonstrated the production of these nanofibers from renewable resources”.

Strem’s nanomaterials product offering now includes nanoparticles of many transition metals, precious metals as well as metal oxides, mixed-metal oxides and magnetic fluids. These are provided in a number of different shapes and sizes. Nanocatalysts are also available.

Strem Chemicals, Inc., established in 1964, is a privately held manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals of high purity. Strem’s key products include catalysts, ligands, organometallics, metal carbonyls and nanomaterials. Its products are used for research and development and commercial scale applications, especially in the pharmaceutical, microelectronics, chemicals and petrochemicals industries. Strem Chemicals also provides custom synthesis, process development and cGMP manufacturing services.

Catalyx Nanotech Inc. is a spin off from the technology incubator, Catalyx, Inc., and was formed with the vision of using renewable resources to produce high quality nanomaterials. By utilizing cost-effective and patented catalysis technologies, Catalyx Nanotech is able to produce its unique Stacked Graphene Platelet Nanofibers from methane, which is produced naturally from decaying organic material in garbage at landfills. These nanofibers have been proven to deliver exceptional performance in a wide variety of applications.
