Sigma-Aldrich Publication Continues to be a Premier Forum for Chemical Research

Sigma-Aldrich (Nasdaq: SIAL) announced today that its chemistry review journal, Aldrichimica Acta, was recently ranked number one by Impact Factor (IF) when evaluated against all 55 international journals in the field of Organic Chemistry.

"We are excited about this latest ranking of the Acta by such a prestigious organization as Thomson Reuters," said Dr. Sharbil Firsan, Editor of the Aldrichimica Acta. "We are especially thrilled by the significant one-year jump in Impact Factor from 2007 to 2008, a clear confirmation of the high esteem in which our fellow chemists hold the Acta, and a testament of its continued value to the research community. It is no coincidence that some of the most prominent names in chemistry have published in the Acta over the past 42 years, including six Nobel laureates. These rankings will continue to inspire Sigma-Aldrich to make the Acta even more valuable to scientists and technologists around the world."

While the Aldrichimica Acta has been ranked number one by Impact Factor for seven of the past eight years, this latest IF ranking (2008) is based on an Impact Factor of 16.733--a jump of more than 4 points over the Acta's 2007 IF score of 11.929. In 2008, the Acta was also ranked first by Five-Year Impact Factor and by Article Influence(TM) Score, a measure of the relative importance of the journal on a per-article basis. These rankings appear annually in the Science Edition of Journal Citation Reports , which tracks over 6,500 international science journals annually and offers quantifiable statistical data that enables the systematic ranking of journals by relative importance within their subject categories.

The Aldrichimica Acta publishes in-depth reviews on topics of current interest to chemists up to four times a year, and is distributed at no charge to more than 120,000 subscribers worldwide.
