UAlbany NanoCollege Organises NanoCareer Day Program for School Students

The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (“CNSE”) of the University at Albany welcomed the 5000th student to participate in its NanoCareer Day program when it hosted more than 300 elementary, middle- and high-school students from upstate New York at CNSE’s Albany NanoTech Complex on December 8.

NanoCareer Day is designed to give students a firsthand look at the exciting science of nanotechnology. The program helps to prepare them for a growing number of nanotechnology-related careers in the Capital Region and New York State, while also addressing the critical national need to stimulate students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

NanoCareer Day included presentations by CNSE faculty on the emerging science of nanotechnology and the career opportunities it offers; hands-on demonstrations explaining the applications of nanotechnology research and development; and tours of CNSE’s world-class Albany NanoTech Complex, a $6.5 billion megaplex that is the most advanced in the academic world.

Schools participating in NanoCareer Day, and their counties, included: Albany High School (Albany); Knickerbacker Middle School, Lansingburgh CSD (Rensselaer); Maple Avenue Middle School, Saratoga Springs CSD (Saratoga); Questar III Rensselaer Educational Center (Rensselaer); Queensbury High School (Warren); Schenectady High School (Schenectady); Academy of Engineering (Albany); Mohawk Valley Community College, STEP Program, (Oneida); Division Street Elementary School, Saratoga Springs CSD (Saratoga); Home School Student Group (Rensselaer); and Delhi Central School (Delaware).
