CNSE to Introduce Nanotechnology to Children

The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany has introduced educational and community outreach programs such as granting a Girl Scouts’ patch for nanotechnology to celebrate National NanoDays 2011.

The event, organized by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net), will be held from March 26 to April 3, and will spread awareness of nanotechnology and will draw universities, science museums and research groups across America.

Over 150 Girl Scouts will be awarded a NanoPatch designed by CNSE with the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York (GSNENY) on March 26 at the Girl Scouts’ ‘Go Nano!’ program that will be held at the NanoTech Complex. The technology and its future will be introduced to the participants through a series of tours, activities and interactive presentations.

Also being hosted is the 13th Annual STEP Statewide Student Conference in Albany on March 26. It offers academic support services and participation activities to African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and economically challenged students in grades 7 to 12 who aim to pursue further study and research in this sector. It will attract 325 students and 175 program directors. Nano in the Mall from March 28 to April 1 will highlight the impact of nanotechnology on society. NanoCareer Day on March 30 will provide a tour of the NanoTech Complex.

The event will also be conducted at the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology in Troy and at the New York State Museum in Albany on April 2.
