ST's iNEMO Engine Sensor Fusion Suite Integrates Outputs from Multiple MEMS Sensors

STMicroelectronics has introduced a new family of sophisticated predictive and filtering software for integrating the outputs from several MEMS sensors.

iNEMO Engine Sensor Fusion Suite

The new iNEMO Engine Sensor Fusion Suite provides better accuracy, stability, response time and resolution due to the fusion of on-board real-time motion-sensor data. The suite is suitable for sophisticated motion-based applications in computer, medical, industrial and consumer fields.

The iNEMO Engine Sensor Fusion Suite creates a complete, customizable hardware/software solution with multi-axis MEMS sensors to provide precise heading recognition and improved motion. The engine software utilizes a set of filtering and adaptive prediction algorithms based on the Kalman filter theory. This enables the engine to sense the information received from various sensing devices such as compasses, gyroscopes, pressure sensors and accelerometers. The software has the ability to rectify the inaccuracies, interference and distortions in measurements from the sensors.

ST's iNEMO inertial modules can be combined with the iNEMO Engine to create the sensor solution. Manufacturers of equipments catering to different industries can deploy the motion-detection systems that have angular, magnetic and linear motion 3-axis sensing. A pressure sensor provides altitude/ barometer readings. The motion-detection systems will have up to 10 degrees of freedom.

The iNEMO Engine Pro, a software library having data-fusion algorithms designed for processing of multiple sensor outputs is a part of the iNEMO suite. The iNEMO Engine Lite is another software library that is offered, free, for evaluation of the motion-detection system. These libraries are customizable for various hardware platforms and operating systems.
