Protochips Aduro 300 and Poseidon 500 Pave Way for Advanced In Situ Electron Microscopy

Protochips, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based provider of in situ microscopy products and technologies has pushed the boundaries of in situ electron microscopy with its liquid cell platform Poseidon 500 and heating and electrical biasing platform Aduro 300. Both the products will be demonstrated by Protochips at M&M 2012 to be held in Phoenix, Arizona.

The company will host a JEOL 1400 TEM and daily live demonstrations of the Poseidon and Aduro platforms at booth 303. In addition, Protochips will also host three presentations by well renowned experts. On July 30, Monday at 5.30 pm, Dr. Paulo Ferreira from the University of Texas at Austin will speak about his work involving silver nanoparticle sintering as a function of temperature and particle size. The second presentation on July 31 at 5.30 pm will be delivered by Dr. David Muller from Cornell University highlighting current studies into the atomic level control of materials in an electrochemistry environment and physics of renewable energy materials. Dr. Debbie Kelly from Virginia Tech will talk about researching living viruses at nanometer scale by employing tissue-compatible grids with binding surface chemistries on August 1 at 5.30 pm.

Aduro functions as a scalable quantitative study platform for micro and nanomaterials. It allows in situ microscopy at temperatures up to 1200 °C without affecting the atomic resolution. It has a double-tilt option. The Poseidon functions as a scalable platform for studying hydrated species. Biological samples can be imaged in real time in a completely hydrated environment. The Poseidon incorporates the Autolab electrochemistry system via a partnership with Metrohm. It also possesses a precision electric option to carry out low-current analysis.
