Samsung Starts Production of STMicroelectronics’ Next-Generation 32/28 nm SoC Products

Samsung Electronics, a provider of sophisticated semiconductor technology solutions, has started foundry production of STMicroelectronics’ advanced products utilizing 32/28 nm High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) process technology.

STMicroelectronics has chosen Samsung Electronics’ foundry business to produce 32/28 nm process node products. Through this foundry relationship, a dozen STMicroelectronics next-generation system-on-chip (SoC) devices have been taped-out for use in consumer, mobile and network applications.

Samsung and STMicroelectronics have taken part in the International Semiconductor Development Alliance for the development of 32/28 nm HKMG technology. Samsung’s foundry business has provided access to 28 nm HKMG process technology for customers seeking conventional migration benefits and to 32 nm HKMG process technology for pioneers in the field.

Samsung Electronics’ Executive Vice President of Foundry Business, Device Solutions, Kwang-Hyun Kim informed that the company has begun foundry production of STMicroelectronics’ advanced 32/28 nm SoC products. A foundry relationship with STMicroelectronics is a testament to Samsung’s commitment towards sophisticated process technology and its leadership in 32/28 nm HKMG process-technology.

STMicroelectronics’ Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Jean-Marc Chery stated that besides providing a variety of breakthrough products, the company is joining forces with industry leaders, which is a key reason for its success in each of its target markets. Through the International Semiconductor Development Alliance, STMicroelectronics and Samsung have teamed up in the development of next-generation process technologies. STMicroelectronics has ramped up its ability by gaining significant knowledge through this experience to fulfill its goals and offer innovative services to customers in challenging and swiftly changing markets.
