The new Zetasizer Ultra is Malvern Panalytical’s most advanced system for the measurement of particle and molecular size, particle charge and particle concentration, and signifies the most intelligent and flexible instrument in the Zetasizer series.
This flagship instrument is filled with all the advantages afforded by ZS Xplorer software, in terms of analysis speed, ease of use, and data confidence, and also offers two exclusive measurement capabilities: Multi-Angle Dynamic Light Scattering (MADLS®) and Particle Concentration, to offer even greater understanding about the samples.
The Zetasizer Ultra is the world’s most capable integrated DLS and ELS system, including Non-Invasive Back Scatter (NIBS®) and, exclusively, Multi-Angle Dynamic Light Scattering (MADLS) technology for the measurement of molecular and particle size. The NIBS provides the sensitivity and versatility to measure across a broad concentration range, while MADLS allows a higher resolution view into sample’s size distribution for those crucial measurements.
An extension to MADLS affords the ability to directly test particle concentration. The measurement of particle concentration is free of calibration, ideal for a wide range of materials, requires no or little dilution, and is fast to use — all of which make it suitable as a screening method. This is an exceptional capability of the Zetasizer Ultra which can even be applied to samples such as VLPs and viruses, which were earlier highly challenging to measure.
The Zetasizer Ultra also delivers the maximum sensitivity zeta potential and electrophoretic mobility measurements with the M3-PALS technology. Malvern Panalytical’s inexpensive disposable folded capillary cells enable measurements in very low volumes, without direct sample-electrode contact, using Malvern Panalytical’s patented diffusion barrier technique. The information provided by these measurements is a great indicator of sample stability and/or tendency to aggregate.
The incorporation of Constant Current Mode for measuring electrophoretic mobility and zeta potential in high conductivity media decreases errors linked with electrode polarization at higher ion concentrations.
