NaturalNano, Sparta Armor to Develop Nano-Scale Additives for Armor Products

NaturalNano, a manufacturer of advanced nanocomposites, has signed a joint development and supply deal with Sparta Armor to develop a new range of superior-performance additives using their patented technologies.

The additives to be produced will be used to enhance the mechanical properties of vehicle and body armor materials of Sparta Armor. According to the deal, Sparta Armor and NaturalNano will jointly develop novel products utilizing Halloysite Natural Tubes of NaturalNano. These products will be exclusively sold by Sparta Armor, a developer of nanotechnology-based advanced materials for civilian, industrial and military applications.

NaturalNano’s Chief Executive Officer, Jim Wemett stated that the company is happy to partner with Sparta Armor to advance products for improving the safety of police and military personnel. Wemett added that the company intends to carry on its work under the latest deal for optimizing the performance of armor products.

Sparta Armor’s Chief Executive Officer, J.J. Wendell stated that the company is focused on the development of blast and ballistic protection products such as individual body armor. The company’s partnership with NaturalNano has resulted in the development of meaningful products, he added.

Wendell further said that the addition of naturally occurring halloysite nanotubes of NaturalNano into ballistic panels of Sparta Armor eliminate the need of costly, brittle and heavy advanced ceramic plates, while retaining elongation properties and improving yield strength. NaturalNano’s halloysite nanotubes address Sparta Armor’s quest for a dispersible and highly reliable nano-scale additive capable of working with its technology, he concluded.
