IEEE PV Specialists Conference to Highlight Thin Film and Other Technologies

Registration opens today for the 35th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference being held at the Hawaii Convention Center on June 20-25, 2010.

The early bird registration deadline is May 15, 2010. Registration instructions can be found at http://www.ieee-pvsc.org/PVSC35/conference-registration.html.

First held in 1961, the Photovoltaic (PV) Specialists Conference is the original global gathering of photovoltaic scientists and engineers with the specific purpose of discussing PV research and technology. This year’s call for papers saw a record-breaking number of abstracts submitted, with more than 1,000 proposals coming from across the globe—a 50 percent growth from the previous conference.

“Global enthusiasm for solar energy is on the rise despite the economic downturn, as underscored by the overwhelming number of abstracts we received for the 35th PV Specialists Conference,” said Robert Walters, Conference Chair for the 35th IEEE PV Specialists Conference. “This year’s event promises to be our biggest yet, featuring high caliber presenters, exhibitors and attendees from the world’s top research facilities and industry-leading companies.”

The PV Specialists Conference technical program encompasses the full range of PV technologies, including thin film, crystalline, CPV, organic, space and terrestrial system technologies. In addition, two new topical areas have been introduced to the 2010 program:

  • Organic Photovoltaics: Organic PV topics previously categorized under Area 1: Fundamentals and New Concepts for Future Technologies, have been elevated to their own concentration area.
  • Advances in Characterization of Photovoltaics: Advances in characterization and measurement techniques have been introduced as an entirely new topical area to highlight analysis methods that are broadly applicable to myriad PV materials.

A vibrant exhibition hall will feature 120 top-tier exhibitors from all over the world. In addition to housing technical poster presentations throughout the conference, the hall will include an exhibitor presentation arena to showcase new products. With the theme of bringing together industry leaders and scientists, conference session breaks will also be held in the exhibition hall to increase interaction among attendees. A historical space technology display will showcase a walk through PV’s past and include special memorabilia from Vanguard 1, the first solar-powered satellite in space.
