STMicroelectronics has expanded its sensor product line by adding a low-power, high performance digital MEMS microphone. The microphone, MP34DT01, comes in a compact packaging measuring 3 x 4 x 1 mm.
The microphone is capable of providing best quality audio in mobile phones, smart consumer devices and tablets. The microphone is top-mountable and can be positioned close to the acoustic port hole for providing superior sound performance. It is the first ever microphone that is equipped with a top-port sound-inlet with a signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio of 63 dB and a flat frequency response in the audio band of 20-20,000 Hz.
The microphone can be used in applications such as smart speech-recognition for software that is voice-controlled and for electronic-assistant applications for consumer uses. In such applications, improving the audibility is required without an increase in the load on the processor. The SNR values of the microphone make it suitable for use in phonometers having a high dynamic range. The microphone incorporates the best available acoustic sensor technology. The microphone comes with advanced features like echo cancelling, superior sensitivity matching and a small form factor which are apt for use in cell phones and in environments that that are noisy. The microphone can also perform beam forming, which is a sound-processing technique that enables isolation of a sopund and its location. The noise suppression feature of the microphone makes it suitable for use in handsets, tablets, laptops and gaming.
