Strong MEMS-Dedicated Equipment Sales and Refurbished Business Expected to Double in 2011

memsstar Limited, a leading provider of equipment and process expertise to the micro-electrical mechanical systems (MEMS) and semiconductor industries, today announced that it more than doubled its new orders in 2010 to more than US $20 million. memsstar’s sales were driven by its MEMS manufacturing equipment and process consultancy, its remanufactured MEMS equipment and its remanufactured etch and deposition semiconductor manufacturing equipment, all of which saw strong growth.

The company anticipates that its sales in 2011 will also double due to market share growth and strong organic growth, especially as the MEMS market starts to transition into mass production of increasingly advanced devices.

“Our results from this past year clearly demonstrate that we are a company of size, substance and capability,” said Peter Connock, Executive Chairman of memsstar Limited. “Our growth in the marketplace reflects the value that our significant experience in process technology for both MEMS and semiconductor manufacturing brings to the industry. We have had significant growth over the past seven years, which has allowed us to establish memsstar as a strong company and offer customers proven technology backed by financial security.”

memsstar® saw interest across its full portfolio of MEMS solutions and secured orders for every product and configuration it offers. The company’s wealth of processing and equipment experience has been leveraged into vapor etch processes and surface coatings that deliver leading-edge performance, high yield and precise process control. memsstar’s platforms are designed specifically for implementation in MEMS manufacturing and are constructed with industry-standard components to ensure they meet industry expectations in terms of system performance.

pt35, a division of memsstar that delivers remanufactured etch and deposition equipment for MEMS fabrication and R&D as well as semiconductor manufacturing, also saw strong orders in 2010. An established technology partner and services supplier, pt35 offers customer solutions on refurbished OEM platforms that are often combined with proprietary memsstar systems for MEMS applications.

“Our results speak to the success of our approach to the marketplace,” said Peter Connock. “We focus on MEMS processing as a whole, which allows us to work with customers to best address each device’s unique requirements. At the same time, our support for process development across a variety of platforms, both new and remanufactured, is a critical differentiator from other vendors.”

Founded in 2003, memsstar Limited established a MEMS-specific business in 2004 to develop processing technologies for the next generation of MEMS devices. memsstar’s unique, patented processing system solution delivers unrivalled process control and wide process windows for vapor phase isotropic etch and surface modification. With the growing need for multiple technologies and nano materials on the same device, memsstar helps the industry meet the challenges of integrating new materials and designs into existing flows and architectures. This allows customers to achieve cost-effective wafer-scale integration with yields that enable commercial and competitive manufacturing. The company’s semiconductor processing and equipment solutions continue under the banner of memsstar’s pt35 division.
