ReneSola, a company that manufactures solar products for the global market, declared that it has started shipping its Virtus modules and wafers in June.
The company’s shipments reached a total of nearly 20 MW of Virtus modules and 54.8 MW of Virtus wafers. Currently, the company is producing Virtus wafers at an annual capacity of 900 MW. It plans to reach a total of 1.8 GW by the end of 2011. The 54.8 MW of Virtus wafer shipments consisted of nearly 32.1 MW of M-Grade Virtus wafers and 22.7 MW of V-Grade Virtus wafers. The 20 MW of Virtus Module shipments included V-Grade Virtus wafers only.
The Virtus wafer was launched back in January 2011 and offers high-efficiency when compared to other wafers in the industry. The company’s offerings include a V-Grade Virtus wafer of superior quality that reaches 17.5% to 18.2% of cell conversion efficiency. It also produces a lower grade M-Grade Virtus wafer with a cell conversion efficiency of 16.7% to 17.0%. These high efficiency rates are maintained at the wafer level even before the manufacturing of cells, which can further improve the rates of efficiency. The company’s Virtus modules can produce up to 250W of power.
The company is applying for 10 patents for the Virtus wafer and module. It is also waiting to receive trademark protection in various nations.
